About Money Weight Calculator

Ever wondered how much your cash physically weighs? Whether you're handling a pile of coins, a stack of bills, or a mix of both, the Money Weight Calculator helps you find the total weight of any dollar amount in U.S. currency—down to the gram.

This tool is ideal for bank tellers, cash handlers, coin collectors, vendors, fundraising organizers, and even the just-plain-curious. Maybe you're rolling coins to take to the bank, or trying to estimate the weight of cash donations for transport. Or maybe you're just wondering how heavy $1,000 in quarters would be. This calculator does the math for you in seconds.

Let’s say you're counting change at a laundromat and want to know how heavy $250 in quarters is. Instead of guessing or looking up conversion tables, just enter "$250" and select “quarters.” The calculator tells you the total weight instantly. Or perhaps you’re packing cash and want to find out if a $5,000 stack of $100 bills exceeds your carry-on weight limit (spoiler: it doesn’t—U.S. bills are only 1 gram each!).

The calculator accounts for every U.S. coin denomination from pennies to dollar coins, and all standard U.S. bill types from $1 to $100. It uses accurate, official weights:

Coins: Each has a different weight (e.g., penny = 2.5g, quarter = 5.67g)

Bills: All U.S. bills weigh 1 gram, regardless of denomination

This makes the tool useful not only for financial logistics, but also for trivia, teaching math, or even planning movie props (fake cash has to feel real, after all!).

How Money Weight Calculator Works

Enter the total dollar amount in the “Amount” field.

Choose your denomination type — either select a specific coin or bill.

The calculator then:

Divides the total amount by the denomination to find the number of items.

Multiplies the number of items by the official weight of each.

Returns the total weight in grams.

For example:

$200 in $20 bills → 10 bills → 10 grams

$50 in dimes → 500 dimes × 2.268g = 1134g

Tips:

You can try different denominations to compare weight differences.

For mixed denominations, calculate each separately and sum the results.
